All Hands On Deck
Handprints in the sand we love but handprints on the wall? WHAT? Actually encouraged in my world! One of my most favorite quotes is by Forest E. Witcraft about the value of Teaching By Example: “A hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove…but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”
Handprints get a bad rap. We start at an early age smearing our hands in food, in dirt, and perhaps most colorfully in paint. Handprints should never be “just handprints”. They capture not only a memory but an age of time. Look at these tiny little scampering baby feet, or the first cursive letters written by our daughter and “Grammy’s” hard-working, care-giving hands of love. Time races, time passes but walls can tell a story.
In an age of digital photography, moms driving SUV’s rapid speeds to soccer game practices, and living by ridiculous car pool line rules, sometimes we all just need to STOP and take a look around us. What makes you SMILE when you walk in a room? What makes a guest stand and stare in awe in the entryway? What is the WOW factor within your FOUR walls? In a world of near impossible schedules, a minimalistic movement, and the course of time racing against us….take a break and PLAY a little. We are never too old to get a little paint on our hands, feet or WALLS. EXPLORE with me ways to get off your feet and get all hands on deck.
